Biography

Rick Treon is a writer, actor, and publishing executive drawn to stories about life and death in the Lone Star State.

Throughout his career, he's been honored by organizations such as the International Thriller Writers, the Writers' League of Texas, the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Texas Associated Press Managing Editors.

The Texas High Plains Writers named him Writer of the Year in 2021 and two of his novels have won the PenCraft Award for Literary Excellence. He’s also been shortlisted twice for the Silver Falchion Award and earned a nomination for the Best Thriller Book Award.

Rick is also the co-founder of Bomb City Entertainment and has worked on film sets of all sizes. His acting and film crew work includes major Hollywood movies and TV shows such as HIM (executive produced by Jordan Peele), Eddington, Landman, and Hacks; sharp independent feature films such as The Relic: Dragon and Down The Arm of God; and several short films.

Rick is also the Director of Publishing for Amarillo-based Blue Handle Publishing. Several of the books he’s acquired have won awards and earned Amazon bestseller status.

Prior to being a novelist and actor, Rick worked in daily journalism. He served as Managing Editor at The Kerrville Daily Times and the Amarillo Globe-News, covered sports for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. He covered Texas Longhorns and Big 12 sports for The Daily Texan while attending The University of Texas at Austin, where he graduated with a Bachelors of Journalism in 2008.
